Take note of the type of resistance. Push and hold the button in. Try to open the door while it is shut. A sticky lock is usually caused when excess dirt and grime binds up the mechanisms that enable the lock to turn smoothly.

A door knob lock button stuck has a few quick fixes that you can try out. Remove these screws unscrew one side of the door knob and pull the door handle and lock assembly out of the door. Soak your door lock in kerosene for 24 hours if it isn t attached to a door and has been rusted shut. Place the end of the straw into the opening of the lock where you normally insert your key.

The knob will not turn to retract the stuck door latch. If the malfunctioning lock is in the door handle there will be at least two screws securing the door handle to the door. Fortunately there are a number of ways to fix a stuck lock without calling in the professionals and breaking your budget. The latch will not retract even when the knob is turned.

Troubleshooting a stuck door latch. Remove the cover or faceplate of your mortise lock or surface mounted rim lock to repair it. Insert the straw into the opening of the lock. Once that happens getting in and out of doors can be a major hassle.

Release the button quickly try sliding your finger off the button so the pressure is maintained up until the precise moment of release with no backing off. Remove the old lock. More force is needed to turn the knob and unstick the latch.
